Drum Dryer

Description
Drum dryers are classified as contact dryers. The single-drum version of this type of dryer generally has a large rotating cylinder, which is heated by steam. The moist product is applied to the drum surface, and distributor screws and application rollers produce a thin product layer on the main drum. While the drum rotates one three-quarter turn, the product layer is dried to the intended residual moisture by direct contact with the hot drum surface, and is then removed by means of a special scraper. The dried products normally leave the dryer in a film- or flake-like or a powdery state. Continuous product films are reduced to the intended particle size after drying. If the feed entering the dryer consists of boiled and mashed potatoes, the resulting product will be potato flakes.
Application
Dryer designed for drying liquid or pasty products, whose quality will not be affected by high-temperature drying; or products, whose physical properties are to be modified in a controlled manner by the application of moist heat.
Used for the production of:
Potato and cereal flakes, starch, leaven, baby food, etc.
